New accountability introduced into social relations
LinkedIn somehow makes our social lives more transparent, more accountable, more manageable.
As with every technology introduction, there are pros and cons.
The main advantage is that you can basically access any opportunity, by leveraging the common connection(s) you have with the person who holds the opportunity or somehow influences the outcome of your attempt to capitalize on the opportunity.
The main disadvantage, although it's more like a challenge, is that you will have to exert a certain degree of intellectual effort in planning and maintaining your social relations, in order to be as helpful to others as they are to you.
Indeed, LinkedIn is a game of give and take: the more opportunities you create for others, the more likely other people will reciprocate and offer you opportunities for advancement in your career, business or in life.
